Privacy: how we look after your information
Last changed:
The short version
You can fold without telling us who you are.
You don’t need an account to fold, save or come back. Just looking at models gives you no cookie.
Pick a nickname, not your real name.
When you publish a model, everyone can see the name you chose.
We never sell your information.
We don’t show ads now. If we ever do, they will never use information about you.
We keep only what we need.
We keep it on our server and its backups, and we delete old things on a schedule.
Accounts are for people 13 and older.
Are you younger? You can still use everything that needs no account. Ask a grown-up about the rest.
You can ask us to delete it all.
Email info@dorigami.com. We will delete your account and everything you made with it.
Grown-ups can read the rest.
The details below are for parents. You can read them together.
For grown-ups: the details
d’Origami is a website for folding paper models on a screen. You can write to us at info@dorigami.com. These rules go with our terms.
What “your information” means
It means this list, and nothing else:
- Your account: the id that Google or Apple gives us for you, your email address, and whether it was checked.
- Your public name: the nickname you pick when you first publish a model.
- Your models: the title, the description, the folding steps and a small picture of each one.
- A sign-in code: if you sign in by email, your address and a scrambled copy of the code.
- Visit records: what happened during a visit, filed under a random number that is not linked to your account.
- Server logs: a list of the pages our server sent, with your browser type and the page you came from, and any errors.
- Things your browser keeps: see the table at the end.
We never collect your location, age, photo, contacts or phone number. You have no password with us.
We don’t keep your IP address with anything you do here. Our server needs it to send you pages. We take it out of the list of pages, and any server log that may still hold it is deleted after 14 days.
If you only look
Looking gives you no cookie and adds nothing to our database. When you first click, tap or press a key, we start a visit record:
- it uses a random number kept in that browser tab, and a new number starts after 4 hours
- it records which models you opened, how far you watched or folded, how long the page was on screen, steps like “saved” or “published”, and how quickly our folding server answered
- if you have saved models, it notes only whether a model is your own, not who you are
- it does not record your IP address, your browser, where you are or the page you came from
If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, we don’t record your visit.
If you save without an account
Your first save gives your browser a random number, so your models stay yours. It comes with no name, email or other details, and a cookie keeps it in your browser. This is not an account. You can save 20 models this way, and 200 once you sign in.
If you make an account
You can sign in with Google, with Apple, or with a 6-digit code we email to you. That code is the only email we send.
What other people can see
- A published model shows its title, description, folding steps and picture, with your nickname and a pattern picture made from it. It never shows your email or a photo. Anyone can see it and fold their own copy.
- A draft is a model you saved but did not publish. It is not listed anywhere, but it has its own link. Anyone you give the link to can see it and fold their own copy.
- A discarded draft stops opening everywhere at once.
How long we keep things
We keep everything on our server and its backups.
- Visit records: 30 days. After that we keep only a daily count for each model, with nothing about any visit.
- Server logs: 14 days.
- Backups: 90 days.
- Sign-in codes: they work for 10 minutes and are deleted within a day.
- Discarded models: deleted 30 days after you discard them.
- Your account and your models: until you discard them or ask us to delete them.
Deleting everything
Email info@dorigami.com and tell us the email address you sign in with. Within 30 days, we delete your account and everything made with it, published models too. Our backups drop it within 90 days. Copies that other people folded from your published models belong to them, and they stay.
Who else handles your information
- Google or Apple, if you sign in with them. They send us your account details, and they know you signed in here.
- The service that sends our emails gets your address and your sign-in code.
- The service that receives our emails gets what you write to info@dorigami.com, with your address, and passes it on to our inbox.
- The company that runs our server stores everything for us.
We never sell your information. We don’t show ads now. If we ever do, they will never use information about you. Our pages load nothing from other companies: no ads, no trackers, no outside fonts and no videos.
Our Discord is a separate site, with its own rules.
Ages
Accounts are for people 13 or older (older if the law where you live says so). We don’t ask anyone’s age. Younger folders can use everything that needs no account. If a child under 13 has made an account, write to us and we will delete it.
Changes
The date at the top tells you when this page last changed. When a change matters, the app shows a short notice once.
